Covid-19 Update, Wednesday 18 March 2020

Following the Prime Minister’s briefing yesterday, the trustees of the Roger & Douglas Turner Charitable Trust, in association with the management team of the Arley Estate, have taken the decision to close Arley Arboretum & The Garden Tea Room for 12 weeks, commencing Thursday 19 March 2020.

The Garden Tea room is limited in its capacity and does not allow us to maintain the safe distance protocols, in respect of social distancing guidelines, recently put in place by the government. Furthermore, there is a need for us to suspend all public events that are deemed a potential ‘mass public gathering’ at this time.

For this reason, the planned Easter Egg-stravaganza, rabbit trail and other family activities will no longer go ahead.

A positive planned approach

Please be assured that the actions we have taken today are designed to reassure our staff, volunteers and visitors that their health and wellbeing remain our first priority.

During the arboretum’s closure we will be taking time to employ our staff in a positive programme of change, including the building of new toilets and extended car parking facilities at the arboretum.

On current plan we will aim to re-open Arley Arboretum & The Garden Tea Room at 10am on Wednesday 10 June 2020.

Open spaces and carparks now closed to visitors

To allow our local community (villagers and tenants) to continue living safely on the Arley Estate during the pandemic, we have taken the decision to now close the public car parks at Eymore Wood, Arley Arboretum & the Riverside, effective form Wednesday 25 March 2020. This has been as a result of the high influx of vehicles in these areas, spilling on to the lanes during the recent good weather.

Ongoing review

We will continue each day to review the evolving situation, using the most up-to-date guidance from the government and the NHS, as it is issued to us. This information will inform our ongoing Covid-19 operational plan.

We will communicate any arising changes to our current plan via our website and social media channels, in a timely manner.

In the meantime, we remain committed to looking after the needs of our staff and the local community we serve.

Staff safe with your families and loved ones.
